Meet June's Hero of the Month!

When Audrey nominated her Marine husband, Jose, she had this to say:

I am not sure what to write I just know that my husband should be named Hero of the month...My husband Jose is on his 4th deployment to Iraq and he is only 23 years old! When we got married he took my children in as his own and has continued to not only support me and my children with all of the love he has but he has also shown the same dedication and love for the United States Marine Corps and the freedom of the United States ! He is so dedicated to his job...serving our country. Each day at home he strives to keep our family strong as he dedicates his life to his fellow Marines. He says his marines too are his family and he would die for them in combat because the believe in him and trust him like family, he says he joined the Marine Corps just a few months after 9/11. He said one day he was walking home from school when he was almost 18 years old and he heard the news about the twin towers and he said he knew from then on that he wanted to fight for our country and help for all of those poor people who lost their lives. He did not join the Marine Corps for any reason other than that he wants us to be free and he will give his all until the death if necessary to do just that! It scares me so much as it probably does every wife to know that he is risking his life out there for Americans but I believe in him and I can not name all of his accomplishment right now but he is Hero of a life time to me. He was a simple some one when he became a Marine but now when I tell people about him, I tell them about My husband, My Marine, My hero!!!

Pretty much says it all.

Audrey, thank you for sharing this with us. Jose, I'm proud to name you IWT's Hero of the Month. Thank you for everything that you do for all of us. Keep your helmet on - stay safe, and take care. A care package will be on the way for you shortly, courtesy of Soldiers' Angels.

Meet May's Hero of the Month!

Dear Pam,

We are students who have been writing to troops this year in school from Ms P’s class in Indianapolis, IN. We have one very special hero we would like to tell you about. Her name is [rank edited by me] Anita J. A----. She is in the Indiana National Guard. When she is not in the guard she is a detective [location edited by me].

We would like you to do something nice for Anita. This year she has not only written to our class and sent emails, but she has sent presents to each of us. Can you believe that she sent each student a backpack? Not just any book bag, but one that is made out of camouflage material. And she had each back pack monogrammed with our names in both English and in Arabic. It is also monogrammed with the words Operation Iraqi Freedom. And it has both an Iraqi and American flag.

Speaking of American flags, Anita also had an American flag flown over the Headquarters of the Multi – National Corps – Iraq in honor of our class and teacher. Each of us has a copy of the certificate saying this flag was flown on March 29, 2007. That is really cool.

We are sure you agree that Anita is really cool and special. That is why we are writing to you. We would like to nominate [rank edited by me] Anita J. A---- as hero of the month. She has reached out to a classroom full of students who she has never met and has given us tangible things we will always cherish.

She has helped teach our class and shown us someone cares. From her we have learned compassion. Our teacher states, “That it does take a whole village to raise a child.” And who would every have known that a total stranger some 8000 miles from home has changed the lives of kids they have never known. For these reasons we would like to nominate SFC Anita J. A---- [unit information edited by me], as the hero of the month. Thank you for listening and thanks again to SFC Anita [home location edited by me] for all she has done for us and the world. She truly makes a difference in all she does

****************************************

It's a no-brainer! Anita, thanks for going above and beyond to show what a true Hero you are. You are certainly a perfect choice for IWT's Hero of the Month.

Soldiers' Angels will be shipping out a special care package to you shortly. Thank you for everything you do. Keep your helmet on - take care, and stay safe.

Feel free to leave messages for Anita in the comments section of this post, and I'll get them to Mrs. P so they can be passed on to Anita.

Meet April's Hero of the Month!

It's that time again; time to meet a very special Hero who has been chosen as IWT's Hero of the Month.

So ladies and gents, please meet Joseph, nominated by his mother, Diane:

My Son / My Hero

As he left that day, running to catch the bus with his comrades, he turned and smiled and waved at his brother and I as if to say, "It's OK Mom, I will be safe." It was a proud but sad day for me. Words cannot express the love I have for him. Joe has been in the Marines for 9 years. He has and always will make his family and friends proud. May God put a blanket of protection around him as he strives and continues to do his duties as a Marine. Continue to stand tall and proud, my son. Semper Fi, OORAH - Love, Mom"

Joseph, Keep Your Helmet On - Take care, and stay safe - we are all proud of you.

Diane, please let me know if there's anything I or Soldiers' Angels can do for you.

Our Hero of the month has a care package on the way, courtesy of Patti and Soldiers' Angels. Diane has also asked that I submit his name, so he'll soon have his own Angel to send ongoing mail and packages.

Meet February's Hero(es) of the Month!

Capt. Kent Ketter, left, Staff Sgt. Dan Hinds and Master Sgt. Matt Feit kneel next to Sattar. The boy’s father, Mussad Abbud, is in the background. (Pantagraph photo)

Nominated by Soldiers' Angel Fran, here are your Heroes of the Month for February:

I would like to nominate Cpt. Kent Ketter and the members of the 33rd Military Police Battalion based in Bloomington, Illinois as the heroes of the month.

In October, they helped save the life of an Iraqi boy. The details and a picture of some of the members can be seen at:
www.pantagraph.com/articles/2006/12/28/news/doc4594046e7a6b7623527868.txt (the picture above comes from this article - make sure to go and read it for a great story of why we call them 'Heroes' -- Pam)

In the words of Cpt. Ketter..."Good things are happening over here...share the word!!!!"

I am Captain Ketter's angel and I am very proud of all they are doing over in Iraq. I am also the proud mother of an officer onboard a nuclear submarine somewhere in the Persian Gulf. Let the good that they do be spread around.

Hear, Hear, Fran!

Congratulations to Cpt. Ketter and the 33rd - you've got a care package on the way courtesy of Soldiers' Angels.
