Gathering of Eagles - Reconvening September 15

From Winter's Soldier Story:

On Tap - Crushing Communists! Gathering of Eagles to Reconvene in DC Sept. 15
Just when the anti-American, pro-terrorist communists and anarchists at ANSWER thought it was safe to crawl out from under the sewer sludge they call home, and again attempt to intimidate our government into giving up the fight against terrorism, the Gathering of Eagles is primed to again offer a counter point of view in Washington, DC, in September.

The GOE, backed by numerous organizations including Move America Forward, is expanding beyond its wildly successful pro-troop vigil in March to once again bring thousands of veterans and our supporters to Washington. The purpose is to again show Congress, the President, and especially our troops, that the vast ocean of Americans who are never contacted by polling organizations support our efforts to win in Iraq and the wider War on Terror.

Just as a reminder, the Gathering of Eagles advocates a non-violent vigil to show support for our troops and our country. As can be found at the GOE website, http://www.gatheringofeagles.org/ the GOE credo reads in part:

Gathering of Eagles is non-partisan. While each member has his or her own political beliefs, our common love and respect for America and her heroes is what brings us together.

We are a non-violent, non-confrontational group. We look to defend, not attack. Our focus is guarding our memorials and their grounds.

However, we are adamantly opposed to the use of violence, vandalism, physical or verbal assaults on our veterans, and the destruction or desecration of our memorials. By defending and honoring these sacred places, we defend and honor those whose blood gave all of us the right to speak as freely as our minds think...

National Recruiters Day!

Forwarded by Soldiers' Angel Shelle:

Greetings! As announced by the Gathering of Eagles Chairman on 6 Apr, GOE is planning to recognize the critical contributions of America's military recruiters. Larry Bailey's directive follows:"Our first nationwide project will be "Operation Recruiter Appreciation (ORA)." On May 19th, Armed Forces Day, Eagles will independently set up appreciation demonstrations outside hundreds ofmilitary recruiting offices across the country. Each effort will be planned and coordinated by local Eagles, and each effort will, accordingly, have its own "hometown" flavor."

http://gatheringofeagles.org/?p=257

So what do you need to do to take part in GOE Recruiter Appreciation Day?
Use your imagination! Below I have listed some suggestions, but that's all they are. I hope to see this thread become quite active as people come up with their own ideas of how to honor and thank our military recruiters.

Suggestions for ORA
-Deliver a pizza and some sodas to the recruiter's office around lunchtime.
-Drop off some VIP movie passes you picked up from a nearby theater.
-Set up a table outside the office (after receiving permission) with some signs/banners advertising GOE and, more importantly, your efforts to honor the recruiters' service and sacrifice. Perhaps have some goodies and a card for passersby to sign, contributing their appreciation.
-Have your kids help you whip up some homemade cookies and/or brownies, and have the kids deliver them. Once the ice is broken, the kids and recruiters will definitely enjoy the visit. Trust me!
-Invite one or more of the recruiters to your home for dinner later in the week.
-Please don't let a limited budget prevent you from participating. A simple hand-made card from a child, or even a smile and a warm handshake won't cost anything but will lift some spirits and let our troops know you care.
-During your visit, get some of the recruiters to pose with you for a few photos, so that we can share in your visit here on the forum. (Please remember to get permission to use their images/names)
-Take a homemade sign saying "Thank you!" or "God bless our military" along with a few friends and stand outside a local recruiter's office.

You get the idea. We'll leave times flexible, but Iwould recommend around lunchtime in your areas. Not only is it easy to tie in with food and beverages, but hopefully the recruiters won't have to work too late on a Saturday. (I said "hopefully".)

We do ask that all participants try to connect their shows of support with Gathering of Eagles. It's a nice way for your particular recruiters to find out about our mission, and it will be the perfect excuse for you to share with them that others across our nation are conducting similar shows of support and appreciation.

If you can't afford to purchase a large GOE banner, consider buying and/or wearing a GOE armband instead.

Or simply have a homemade sign and/or business cards with our name and website.

How do I locate a recruiter?
Find information on local U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard recruiters by entering your zip code here:

For an Army recruiter specifically, you may need to go to this location instead:

Damn, Damn, Damn.

The one time this year the weather folks have been right, and it has to be last night.

Sadly, I was unable to make it to D.C. today. I'm not happy about it, to say the least, but conditions here last night made it impossible for me to drive the 40 minutes I needed to in order to meet the bus. It was a decision I didn't want to make.

My heart has certainly been with the Eagles today, even if my body wasn't able to be.

I do expect to have some pictures and details coming from someone who was able to get there.

In the meantime, check out the pics and details of a Gathering of Eagles rally over at American Dinosaur.

GoE and Euphoric Reality Sites Attacked...

Via Email and the Gathering of Eagles website:

Website Sabotage
Posted: 12 Mar 2007 12:39 PM CDT
As you’ve noticed by now, the GOE website has sustained some collateral damage from a professional hack attack on Euphoric Reality, the host of the GOE website. The hack ran a malicious and highly sophisticated script on our server that has corrupted our database and access. We have been working since last night on correcting the problems.

The GOE website is solid, but the forum is down. We hope to have that back up soon. Many of you have emailed us about the forums being down. I don’t have time to answer all the emails personally, so please let this serve as our acknowledgment that we are certainly aware of the situation and working on it.

This is a targeted attack by people who raucously abuse the privileges of free speech, but maliciously target those with whom they don’t agree. They are like cornered rats and are viciously lashing out.

Please bear with us, Eagles. We will prevail.

***** ***** *****

UDPATE: In the event our Eagles web site is damaged between now and Saturday that prevents communication flow, ALL participants should arrive at the Vietnam Memorial as scheduled between 0700 -1000 hours am Saturday for further instructions and directions on activities for the day.

But the anti-war crowd is really peaceful....no, really, they are - as long as you agree exactly 100% with everything they say and do...y'know, kinda like other extremists we know...

Amen!

Why am I headed to D.C. on March 17th?

Best way to answer is with this poem:

Not this time

They gathered in the 60s
And Ol’ Glory burned and tore
With all their hollow slogans such as
‘Let’s make love, not war.’

They took for granted freedoms
Struggled for in every clime.
But as their sequel gathers steam
We’re saying ‘Not this time.’

~~~~
Peaceniks still don’t grasp the irony
As they demand free speech.
Atop soapboxes, with bullhorns
They curse and mock and preach.
And in our country that’s their right
‘Twas earned in blood and grime.
Secured by men they tried to shame
But not now, not this time.
~~~~
Perhaps someone can tell me why
When marching on for “peace”
These protesters bring cans of paint
And beat upon police?

Their anti-war activities
Bought and paid by foreign dime,
They used to go unchallenged,
But we promise - not this time.

~~~~
They assaulted soldiers coming home
With curse words, spit and worse.
All done, it’s claimed, in search of peace
No matter how perverse.
With Fonda, Kerry, Ramsey Clark,
And others past their prime,
They hope to relive “glory” days.
But hold on, not this time.
~~~~
Their signs laced with profanity,
With swastikas and threats.
Parading by with coffins
Showing no signs of regret.

Demonstrating outside hospitals
With signs like “Maimed for Lies.”
Well, free speech is a two-way street
You’ve got company this time.
~~~~
Outside the Capitol, perhaps
Is where these types belong.
But treading on such sacred ground
Is insolent and wrong.
They won’t disturb memorials,
Or other spots sublime.
They’ve damaged several in the past,
But trust me, not this time.
~~~~
So on March 17th around
The Wall we will be lined.
Ensuring reverence does prevail,
No monuments maligned.

We’ll peacefully assemble,
And we’ll tolerate no crime.
Forty years ago they marched alone,
Forget it - not this time.
~~~~
NATIONAL PATRIOTIC CARAVAN COUNTERS ANTI-WAR EFFORT
From California to Washington, D.C. March 8th – March 17th
A national patriotic, pro-troop caravan will cross the nation, traveling from California to Washington, D.C. to show support for U.S. troops serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
The "THESE COLORS DON'T RUN" national caravan (organized and sponsored by the pro-troop non-profit group Move America Forward – http://www.moveamericaforward.org/) will depart San Francisco, California on the morning of Thursday, March 8, 2007, traversing the length of the state and then heading across the nation. The patriotic caravan will feature stops across the nation in major cities where pro-troop rallies will take place.
Leading the caravan will be Blue Star Mother Deborah Johns, whose son William is serving his 3rd tour of duty in Iraq; Gold Star Mother Debra Argel Bastian whose son, Derek, died in Operation Iraqi Freedom; Gold Star Father Joseph Williams whose son, Michael, died in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and John Ubaldi – a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).
At each rally, participants will bring American flags – either a homemade one they created themselves, a store-bought flag, or a flag that has a special significance, history or meaning. The flags will be collected at each stop and brought to Washington, D.C. where they will be displayed to create a giant "Flag City" on Saturday, March 17, 2007.
The participants of Move America Forward's "THESE COLORS DON'T RUN" caravan will join with several other patriotic and pro-troop organizations for a giant patriotic rally in Washington, D.C. on March 17th. Among the participating groups MAF is proud to support in this display of patriotism are: Free Republic, Gathering of Eagles, Vets for Victory and Vets For Truth.
"There's been way too much negativity and doom-and-gloom mentality in this nation about our nation, our values and the missions our troops are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward.
"We're sick and tired of the shameful subversiveness of the anti-war crowd and we decided it's time to give Americans a chance to respond with a positive, uplifting and patriotic response," Morgan said.
****************************************************
The Anti-war crows plans to assemble AT THE VIETNAM MEMORIAL WALL. The idea of allowing this crowd to assemble at that wall is nauseating - especially given their past performance, during which Hero Joshua Sparling was threatened, insulted, and spat at.
If you are able, please consider making the trip to D.C. for St. Patrick's Day.
