Censure Carter Campaign Ad blitz to Start Airing this FRIDAY, May 5th

* Ads Will be Seen in 1.2 Million Households on Friday Alone

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 4, 2006
CONTACT: Robert Dixon

(SAN FRANCISCO) – The ad campaign to propel Congress to censure former President Jimmy Carter will be launched this Friday, May 5th. This is the first wave of ads released by the Censure Carter Committee (website: http://www.censurecarter.com/) which call on Congress to adopt a resolution of Censure against former president Jimmy Carter. The ads will be airing on Fox News Channel throughout Friday and into the next week.

The Censure Carter website contains extensive documentation on Carter’s ongoing pattern of interfering with American foreign policy pursuits since Carter left office. “Since leaving office, President Jimmy Carter has repeatedly undermined U.S. foreign policy, criticized the missions of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, as well as embracing known terrorists and terrorist organizations,” the website states.

The website details Carter’s call for international funding for the Hamas-led government in the Palestinian territory; his efforts to advance the agenda of the late PLO terrorist Yasser Arafat; his defense of Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq, opposition to UN sanctions imposed on Iraq, and fraternizing with Iraqi intelligence agent, Samir Vincent; his interfering with efforts to stop North Korea from developing nuclear weapons; and his alliances with Marxist dictators Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and Fidel Castro in Cuba.

Melanie Morgan, who leads the organization sponsoring the Censure Carter effort, the pro-troop organization Move America Forward (website: http://www.moveamericaforward.org/), said Carter’s conduct demands a congressional reprimand.

“Jimmy Carter’s efforts to undermine American foreign policy have been shameful. Carter dishonors our troops when he attacks their noble efforts to combat Islamic terrorism. Carter emboldens our enemies when he sympathizes with the plight of Islamofacist regimes and terrorist organizations in the Middle East,” said Melanie Morgan.

Since the launch of the Censure Carter campaign, more than 50,000 Americans have already signed the Censure Carter petition, and many thousands more are expected to join the effort following the national TV ad blitz that begins on Friday.

Nielsen Media Research estimates that more than 1.2 million American households will see the “Censure Carter” TV ads this week alone on the Fox News Channel.

To date, the Censure Carter Committee has largely relied on talk radio and the Internet to promote the petition drive.

“It's time for the leaders of Congress to offer their condemnation of Carter's harmful efforts to undermine U.S foreign policy and the interests of the American people by passing a resolution of Censure against former President Jimmy Carter.

“We’re going to rally the American public to support a resolution of censure against Jimmy Carter, and we’re going to continue to use talk radio and the Internet to build support for this campaign,” concluded Morgan.

"The War Tapes" Update

From Deborah Scranton:

Dear War Tapes Community,

The Tribeca Film Festival has been nerve-wracking, breathless, emotional, evocative and extraordinary. Every screening so far leaves people talking and grappling and opening themselves up, conversations spill out onto the theater sidewalks and often continue on into coffeeshops and bars. There are two more screenings and then we're done, and have our fingers crossed -- if there's any way we can get an award, it makes it so much more likely that we can get the film shown across the country. The awards are Saturday night... keep up with what happens on the blog. I also did a panel in the Tribeca Talks series with Anthony Swofford (the guy who wrote Jarhead) and a few mainstream journalists -- they were skeptical of The War Tapes, saying you needed more distance to digest the war. As far as I'm concerned, sure, for political decisions you may need distance, but as a country, we need to be alot closer, and stop abstracting.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you an update -- we'll send more updates as the festival closes -- and a new clip, as promised. What is an REMF?:

http://www.thewartapes.com/2006/05/post_1.shtml

If you don't know, watch it. And then pass it on. All we've got now, to make sure this film and this idea of soldiers telling their own stories in movies, is you -- so please spread the word!!!

all the best,
Deborah
