Joe Bozik receives his Purple Heart

Iraq War Today

Hi,
Thanks for the love and prayers. Joey is still positive and looking forward to school, job, and marriage.Today they removed the foli catheter and the epidural. One small step for Joey and one giant leap for mom. He went to casting yesterday and they replaced the cast on the left leg stump. Dr. Hampston, orthopedic surgeon, said that he would remove the cast next Tuesday and check to see how the skin graft is doing and also check the stump for the re-occurance of the bacteria. He is still fighting that bacteria; he is still on the antibiotic by IV. His fever fluctuates from 99 to 101 and he still sweats even with a fan blowing on him. Please pray that this bacteria will not cause him to return to surgery and that his stumps will not have to be re-opened. He will need major surgery again on his left hand to remove the two plates and the 6 pins. I don't know when this will be. His other fractures in his arms and upper legs are healing fine; but he cannot put any weight or movement on these yet. He was measured for an electric wheel chair this past Monday. He was taken to Occupational Therapy last Monday and he trained for his right hand prosthetic. They hook him to a computer and he learns to move certain muscles in his arm that will open and close the hand. I will try to keep you informed; I don't get much free time until January when Jayme will be here again. Joey received his purple heart on Sunday, 5th. See attached picture. Gen. McNeil, whom Joey guarded in Afghanistan, came to do the presentation.
Love,
Gail and Joey
