Okay, NOW I've Heard Everything...

Tough economic times are forcing businesses to compete harder than ever for consumer dollars. People are buying less, spending less, and curtailing extravagant vacations.

So if you're a corrupt, bloated, scandal-ridden bureaucracy that caters to violent left-wing nations and socialist agendas, you've got to dig even deeper to ensure that those billions of dollars of mismanageable funds keep rolling in.

And what better way to do that than capitalizing on the human tragedies of the world that you whine about other people (read, the United States) solving, but do absolutely nothing to solve?

Enter the new vacation spot for the rich and completely disconnected - the U.N.'s new Refugee Run!

That's right, if you're a wealthy European with a hankering to live like the unwashed (but only until you get a craving for escargots and Pernod...) this is the place for you.

Where else can you spend your day in the squalor of a refugee tent from Darfur, Afghanistan, or Iran, and your nights relaxing in the jacuzzi of your luxurious hotel in the Swiss mountains?

Think I'm kidding? Not a chance.

I'm waiting for the U.N. to take some other opportunities it's got out there. I mean, if you're going to cross a line, cross it, dammit! Think about the possibilities. How about:

The African Famine Cafe
Where your lunch is hand-delivered to your table by a starving child. Remember, don't feed the natives!

The Tsunami Water Park
Featuring a wave pool filled with real tsunami debris and replica bloated bodies

The Holocaust House of Horrors
Wander through a terrifying journey filled with moving floors, rooms filled with mirrors, and twisted Nazi scientists as you try to avoid being one of 6 million Jews who may or may not have been murdered by a psychopathic dictator (depending on who you ask). Children under 12 get their own replica yellow star to take home...

Stalin Village
Visit the guest center, where you can play "Raze the village." Challenge other families to see who can wipe out thousands of innocent people first. Are you paranoid enough to beat Stalin's score? And when you're done playing, you can take your picnic lunch out to the perfectly flat, barren wasteland to eat, and enjoy your lunch on what was once a vibrant, thriving village before Stalin ordered everyone killed and the village buried. Visit on his birthday for special discounts!

The 9/11 Fair
What better way to commemorate the deaths of 3,000 innocent people at the hands of Islamic terrorists than a rousing game of Blame America! At the 9/11 Fair, you can learn how to divert aid funds to radical groups, and how to make bland statements denouncing terrorism, all the while condoning nations supporting terrorist groups. It's non-stop hypocritical fun for the entire family. The fair runs the month of September. Negotiations are underway to purchase the soon-to-be-closed Gitmo detention facility for terrorists, in order to allow the fair to be run year round!

Ah, the possibilities are endless.

Gunmen Kidnap American U.N. Official

QUETTA, Pakistan — Gunmen kidnapped an American U.N. official and killed his driver in southwestern Pakistan on Monday, underscoring the security threat in a country wracked by Al Qaeda violence and rising criminality.

The official was abducted in the morning on his way to his job as head of the U.N. refugee office in the city of Quetta, senior police official Khalid Masood said. He identified the kidnapped official as John Solecki of the United States.

"Solecki has been serving in Quetta for more than two years," Masood told The Associated Press. "We cannot speculate on the motive behind the crime."

Authorities sealed exit routes from the city, said Wazir Khan Nasir, another senior police official. Meanwhile, police in the border town of Chaman said they were checking vehicles to prevent the kidnappers from whisking the captive to Afghanistan.

It was not immediately clear what impact the kidnapping would have on U.N. staff. September's bombing of Islamabad's Marriott hotel has already prompted new U.N. rules prohibiting expatriate staff in Pakistan from living with their children in parts of the country, including Quetta.

U.N. Anti-Blasphemy Resolution Curtails Free Speech, Critics Say

Friday, October 03, 2008
By Jennifer Lawinski

Religious groups and free-speech advocates are banding together to fight a United Nations resolution they say is being used to spread Sharia law to the Western world and to intimidate anyone who criticizes Islam.

The non-binding resolution on “Combating the Defamation of Religion” is intended to curtail speech that offends religion -- particularly Islam.

Pakistan and the Organization of the Islamic Conference introduced the measure to the U.N. Human Rights Council in 1999. It was amended to include religions other than Islam, and it has passed every year since.

In 2005, Yemen successfully brought a similar resolution before the General Assembly. Now the 192-nation Assembly is set to vote on it again.

The non-binding Resolution 62/145, which was adopted in 2007, says it “notes with deep concern the intensification of the campaign of defamation of religions and the ethnic and religious profiling of Muslim minorities in the aftermath of 11 September 2001.”

It “stresses the need to effectively combat defamation of all religions and incitement to religious hatred, against Islam and Muslims in particular.”

The rest is here - you might not want to read it if you have a full stomach.

More Trouble at the U.N.? Whodathunkit!?

OK, take a deep breath, 'cause this one's gonna be a shocker (well, not really).

Apparently, U.N. peacekeepers and international aid workers have been requiring rather repugnant quid-pro-quos for food. Or so says Save the Children U.K.:

LONDON — Save the Children UK says in a report released Tuesday that it has uncovered evidence of widespread sexual abuse of children at the hands of peacekeepers and international aid workers in war zones and disaster areas.

The report said more than half the children interviewed knew of cases of coerced sex and improper sexual touching and that in many instances children knew of 10 or more such incidents carried out by aid workers or peacekeepers.

In some cases, children as young as 6 years old were abused, the report said.
But wait - it gets worse:
The report details many types of abuse allegedly committed by peacekeepers and aid workers, including trading food for sex, coerced sex, improper touching and kissing, forced prostitution and using children for pornographic purposes.
It's worth noting that the U.N. is "deeply disturbed" by the reports. I wonder if that's a Burma cyclone kind of deeply disturbed, or a genocide in Darfur kind of deeply disturbed, or what. They seem to be deeply disturbed a lot over there.

Then again, I'd say the U.N. is always deeply disturbed - in a highly-corrupt-and-not-dealing-with-reality sort of way.

Hopefully, the no-doubt-forthcoming sternly worded letter will clear up any confusion.

My Two Cents - A Wolf in Wolf's Clothing

OK, Scott Ritter has never been one of my favorite people. You remember Scott Ritter – the former Senior UNSCOM Inspector who resigned in 1998 because no one was taking action against Iraq, and then trashed us because we were….

Let’s take a trip down Ritter Lane:

From a 1998
News Hour with Jim Lehrer Interview:

ELIZABETH FARNSWORTH: What was happening in your investigations that made you feel you had to resign?

WILLIAM SCOTT RITTER, JR.: Well, basically, is the investigations had come to a standstill were making no effective progress, and in order to make effective progress, we really needed the Security Council to step in in a meaningful fashion and seek to enforce its resolutions that we're not complying with.

And then, in 2002, in the Boston Globe:
While we were never able to provide 100 percent certainty regarding the disposition of Iraq's proscribed weaponry, we did ascertain a 90-95 percent level of verified disarmament. This figure takes into account the destruction or dismantling of every major factory associated with prohibited weapons manufacture, all significant items of production equipment, and the majority of the weapons and agent produced by Iraq.

Well, he must have gotten tired of all of that self-contradiction, because it seems that our buddy Scott has got himself a new gig. From BlackFive comes the news that Scott is now an editorialist for – hold on to your hats – Al Jazeera. Surprising, maybe not. Nauseating, definitely. Scott’s up to his old tricks, trashing America. Yes, that’s right, Scott’s just full of rancid commentary. Full of something, to be sure.

But more than just evidence that Scott is a man with a serious anti-American chip on his shoulder, this latest bit of joy just reminds me what sort of people are hanging around in the U.N. From the blood money of the
Oil-for-Food program, to U.N. Weather Agency, for crying out loud, everything the U.N. touches seems to sour (and when the New York Times is reporting that the U.N. is corrupt, be afraid…be very afraid)

The United Nations was supposed to be a way, according to the
Preamble of its Charter:
to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and

to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and

to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and

to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom…

I wonder when anyone at the U.N. last read that…
