Chertoff: Hezbollah Makes Al Qaeda Look 'Minor League'

From Fox News:

Thursday, May 29, 2008

JERUSALEM — Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff warned Thursday that the radical Islamic group Hezbollah "makes Al Qaeda look like a minor league team," and poses the greatest threat to national security.

"Someone described Hezbollah like the A-team of terrorists in terms of capabilities, in terms of range of weapons they have, in terms of internal discipline," Chertoff told FOX News. "To be honest, they make Al Qaeda look like a minor league team.

"They have been more disciplined, and they've been in some senses more restrained in the kinds of attacks they carry out ... in recent years, but that's not something we can take for granted," he warned.

Chertoff, speaking before the opening of a two-day terrorism forum in Jerusalem, also warned of the threat of a terrorist smuggling a bomb aboard a passenger airplane.

"I don't think we're really worried about hijacking because we've put a lot of measures in place like a locked cockpit door, flight deck officers who have weapons and the air marshals," Chertoff told FOX News. "So the next threat becomes the bomb. Something that either a person takes on board themselves or smuggles into the cargo."
Well, that's comforting...

Someone want to explain to me why the U.N. - and the U.S.(!) - pressured Israel to back off when they were hitting Hezbollah?

At Least 5 Arrested in Alleged Fort Dix Murder Plot

(emphases mine)

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. — At least five people were arrested on charges they plotted to attack the Fort Dix Army base and "kill as many soldiers as possible," federal authorities said Tuesday.

The suspects were scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Camden later Tuesday to face charges of conspiracy to kill U.S. servicemen, said Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey.

Five of them lived in Cherry Hill, about 10 miles east of Philadelphia and 20 miles southwest of Fort Dix, he said.

"They were planning an attack on Fort Dix in which they would kill as many soldiers as possible," Drewniak said.

The suspects were described as "Islamic radicals" by Greg Reinert, a spokesman for the United States Attorney's Office. A law enforcement source told FOX News that all of the suspects are recent converts and were not born Muslims.

The source told FOX News that there were between five and six arrests; the exact number is unclear...

Anyone Remember the Beslan School?

FBI Puts Local Officials on Notice About Extremists Trying to Sign Up to Be School Bus Drivers

WASHINGTON — The FBI has issued an "informational bulletin" to state and local officials saying to watch out for people tied to extremist groups trying to earn licenses to drive school buses.

The Associated Press reports that members of the unnamed extremist groups have succeeded in gaining the drivers licenses, but a Department of Homeland Security official told FOX News that "at this time there is no evidence that any of these individuals have got these jobs, or got hold of school buses
..."

But, of course, they also said there's "no reason for concern..." I wonder if Russian families would think that?

You can read the rest here.

Guess I'm just a little kooky, 'cause this concerns me. Then again, maybe it's just a case of terrorists wanting to "do the jobs Americans won't do" - you know, like kidnapping children...

We have GOT to start taking this threat seriously, before we're reminded of why we should.
