TITIANA, Solomon Islands (April 16, 2007) - Lt. Cmdr. Karlwin Matthews provides medical aid to a native child. Matthews is an individual augmentee from Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, embarked aboard Military Sealift Command (MSC) roll-on/roll-off ship USNS Stockham (T-AK 3017). Stockham is deployed to facilitate humanitarian assistance after an 8.1 magnitude earthquake and tsunami caused casualties and significant damage in the area. Stockham is one of 16 Navy ships of MSC’s Pre-Positioning Program and has a mixed crew of Navy personnel and Merchant Marine seamen.
