Our Heroes' Heroes

Keith, one of the Heroes I'm working with as part of Soldiers' Angels Operation Outreach Team, sends this poem he wrote, dedicated to military wives (especially his).

The Hero of the Deployed Soldier

She accepts the separation

She accepts the hardship

She shows an unrelenting dedication

She becomes the man of the home

And continues her duties

Yet she’s expected to wait by the phone

She is a plumber and a mechanic

She is a chef and a housekeeper

She is the voice that prevents panic

She fixes what’s broken

She repairs it better than I

With a simple Thank You hardly spoken

She takes the entire affliction

She is the outlet for her soldier

No wonder she is the soldiers addiction

She is the strength that makes me strong

She’s the voice that keeps me going

She shows me to accept when I’m wrong

She is truly the hero of the war

Without her there would be no victory

There would be no fight left in this soldier
