This Thanksgiving, troops deployed in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom will pause for 30 minutes in recognition of the holiday. More than 100 name brand fast food locations in and around Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, including Subway, McDonalds, Orange Julius and Burger King, are operated on secure military installations by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) for deployed troops. By simply logging on to http://www.aafes.org/ or calling 1-877-770-4438, any individual, civic organization or business can purchase a gift certificate that can be redeemed for burgers, pizzas, chicken or tacos at any of the popular fast food outlets scattered throughout Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. "Gifts from the Homefront" gift certificates can be sent to a specific Soldier, Airman, Marine or Sailor (designated by the purchaser) or distributed to "any servicemember" through the American Red Cross, Air Force Aid Society, Fisher House or USO.
