The controversy surrounding the "staged" photo has unfortunately obscured, at times, the unfailing bravery displayed on that day.
It is the same every day when our heroes are in battle.

than in any other battle in US History.
The battle lasted 36 days.
By the time it was all over, there had been 25,851 U.S. casualties.
1 in 3 troops engaged were killed or wounded.
6,825 American lives were lost.
Virtually all 22,000 Japanese were killed.
